The Full Story
"Go stand up on that bench, Rameen, and loudly give a speech on all your problems," said my grandfather in a local park. At that moment, I didn't know what I was doing, but looking back, it's where I found my confidence, my voice, and my ability to construct logical arguments. I learned the basics of DEBATE on that park bench.
Not everyone will have the same park bench experience, and some of us may not have supportive people in our lives who believe in us. This is why I decided to create Advodebate. I remember being told, "It's corrupt politics; you're a kid; you don't know what you're talking about." But what if I did know? What if my opinion could stop the constant bickering over politics in our family lounge?
I knew more people my age who struggled to have their voices taken seriously. That same year, I attended a debate competition at Yale University. Amid those intellectual discourses, I realized that when I debate, the opposition has to listen to me. I list facts and make solid arguments that are difficult to rebut. So, what if all teenagers had one place where we could make conversations for change?
Not all of us know how to debate. Don't worry about it—just use the debate toolkit I've designed for different types of debates. Whether for competitions, speeches, or heated discussions about any topic in the world, the toolkit will be there!
Debate requires confidence and bold body language, but I've developed many techniques to help you with that as well! To diversify our site, there's a share resources feature where we can learn from each other.
Enhance your advocacy skills to levels you didn't know you could reach, all through debate. Debate is often seen as "boring conversations that only nerds participate in." Trust me, I've heard this many times. However, that is what I want to change. Debate can be about any topic we want—whether it's football, beauty, or cuisines. Learning to refine conversation skills through debate can help build strong voices within us—voices we can use whenever needed. In today's world, these young voices can help advocate for what is right or what you believe is right.
Our core value is summed up in one phrase: "Respect young voices."
Be part of something new. Learn to debate, advocate, and make sense—all in one!
